“Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn’t you like to see something strange?”

October is here. There is still time to add some extra magic to those Christmas parties. This year though I have had an increase of Halloween bookings which is fantastic. As October filled with its magic, mystery and spooks is truly one of the best times of year.

Looking well

Looking well! Me acting at the London Dungeon

Iv always enjoyed ghost stories, so to kick this month off here are some spooky stories from people who know creepiness, the workers of the London Dungeon. My home for 7 years. Almost everybody had a spooky story to tell, one day I compiled a notebook filled with such encounters.

Firstly here’s a story from Hannah Banks. Now to give some geography to those who don’t know the building. Mitre Square “Bodies” as it was known. Because of the three bodies of the Rippers victims in three corners of the room. Was the first of the 4 Jack the Ripper show rooms. With its cobbled streets, burning gas lamps, dark shadows, windows overlooking the scene and washing lines strung overhead depicting the living but grim east end.

Bodies

“I was in Mitre sq with Joel (fellow actor) when he was telling me that his ex had collected soil from the graves of the jack the ripper victims and spread them around the Dungeons sets for a laugh. I was mid saying- why would you do this and bring the spirits to this location, a place which in a way is glamorizing their brutal murders. When something large and white came flying down at Joels head- it was the washing line of “clothes of the victims” that had been there for years, falling onto his face! We screamed and left and called the displays team to look at it. We didn’t say what had happened through fear of reprisal. She took one look at the rope and said- this is strong rope- this shouldn’t have fallen- it looks like someone ripped this rope apart… But by who or what?”

The Jack the Ripper area was surely one of the more unsettling. This could be the subject matter to blame. But it was also one of the older parts of the building going back way before the tunnels were used as a bomb shelter during the Second World War. Where rumour says that the areas between what was Sweeney Todd and Bodies took a German direct hit and over 50 people, men woman and children perished.

Also involving the Bodies area. Katie Hastings has this story.

The terrifying frying pan alley woman in black

“I was on Bodies and went out into Frying Pan Alley (the zigzag allyway between Todd and Bodies) to look round the partition wall and see if the Todd door was shut. Meaning the show had been reset ready for the next group.
As I lent round the corner to listen for the up coming group of excitable guests. then I heard, RIGHT IN MY EAR, the sing-song voice of a little girl say “What’s the maaaatter?!” I shit bricks but thought it was a new sound effect, like a conversation between scary barrel woman (in the picture above and the feature of many spooky stories) and the manikin of a woman hanging from the upper window. But I heard nothing else. This spooked me so i ran through to another show to accuse that actor of playing a joke. He had only just arrived on set.”

This little girl would become a regular feature of many stories heard around the dungeon over the years. With descriptions that matched from different members of staff and guests.

Who was this little girl? Where did she come from? Will she strike again?

-Big thanks to Hannah Banks & Katie Hastings for your contribution.
